What is decubitus

Decubitus, or bed sores, are pressure ulcers caused by prolonged pressure on soft tissues, often resulting from immobility and lying or sitting in the same position for extended periods of time. Often associated with paralysis, bed sores can also occur in bedridden patients who are unable to move or turn themselves and in those who are overweight or underweight. Bedsores commonly appear on areas of the body that have an inadequate supply of blood, such as the hips, tailbone, heels, and ankles.
